Are you looking for ideas to decorate your bedroom for the holiday season? If, so, you’re in the right place. In this post, I show you how to create a cozy green and white Christmas bedroom using layers of decor. This layered look will take you through Christmas and all the way through Winter with just a few edits. This post is part of a Holiday Home Tour organized by Lynn Vogeler of Living Large in a Small House and Amy Sadler of Amy Sadler Designs. Thank-you to these talented women and to all the home tour participants. At the end of this post, check out all the other homes on this inspiring tour.

Inspiration for the Cozy Green and White Christmas Bedroom
My main inspiration for decor is always nature, and this was most definitely the case this time around too. However, there were two specific items or ideas that got me really excited to start decorating our Master bedroom for the holidays this year. I found this Nordic-style green and white pillow from Homesense and knew I wanted to use this as my colour scheme for the bedroom. White and green are festive, but also calming and serene and representative of winters in this neck of the woods.
My second glimmer of inspiration came from a Pinterest image of presents wrapped simply in kraft paper tied with pretty velvet ribbon. I love simplicity and these wrapped gifts harken to a simpler time. I then tried to incorporate wholesome decor touches with rustic finishes, vintage finds, and handmade goodness.

Bedding
In an effort to reuse what I already had in my home, I gathered all my green and white bedding, blankets, and pillows that I owned. I layered it all on the bed, mixing patterns and textures. I used green plaid flannel sheets, plaid and solid pillows (Tonic Living), an adorable snowflake pillow (Homesense), and cream, oatmeal, and green blankets (all Homesense). A simple white duvet was the base for these different textures and patterns.

My advice is to use what you have and thrift, craft, or buy one or two new pieces if you feel your space needs something more. I purchased the green and white deer pillow and snowflake pillow new this year.

The Tree
I used a small tree (3′ tall) since our bedroom is not a huge space. I was careful when selecting greenery for the space to make choices with a blue undertone to coordinate with the blue undertones in the pillows and bedding I used. This creates a calming and harmonious palette. My little tree has the exact colouring of our giant blue spruce tree that occupies our front lawn. I decorated it with real pinecones, mercury glass ornaents, organza ribbon, burlap ribbon, and wooden cottage ornaments. It’s a mix of nature- and vintage-inspired ornaments. The twinkling lights add light for the dark days and nights of winter.

I placed the tree on a vintage stool to give it a bit of height. Since taking these photos I have moved the tree to beside the black bookcase so it is not in the way of the bedside table.

Statement Pieces
Every space should have some sort of statement piece. I think that our Master bedroom has two. The first is our pencil/poster bed. I actually purchased this over 25 years ago when I was a graduate student. At this time, I finally had a little money in my bank account and this was what I had always wanted. I now know that I want to have this bed frame for the rest of my life. It provides a lovely backdrop for our Christmas decor.

The dresser is my second statment piece here. It was my mother’s and I have had it in my bedroom since I was 11 years old. I have since painted it this lovely shade of green (Fusion Mineral Paint Boxwood) and updated the hardware. I particularly love this colour during the Christmas season, but it is also my favourite colour so I don’t think I will every tire of it.

To find your own statement piece, look through the furniture you already own, keep an eye out on local free and buy and sell groups, visit thrift shops or antique shops, or find a local maker to create something unique for you. Painting or refinishing dated furniture can bring new life to uninspired pieces.
Finishing Touches
To the side tables, I added mercury glass trees and candles to add some sparkle and glow. Stacks of books are always in baskets on our side tables because every space needs books and a cozy spot to read.

To the bed I added a wooden tray of books and a battery-powered candle in a vintage mason jar. I used a jar that has a green tint to the glass to tie in with the green theme.

I also added a green pine garland with mercury glass lights to the headboard. This emphasizes the curvy shape of the headboard. And I adore my Sweet Dreams artwork from KT Inspired Home.

A basket of simply wrapped presents and DIY cotton rope balls adorns the foot of the bed.
